REUNION 16-18 October 2009
This year’s reunion will be held at RAF Aldergrove from the 16th – 18th
October.
It promises to be a particularly significant event marking as it does the end of the Squadron’s tenure in Northern Ireland. It also would appear to be marking the last of the Royal Air Force’s flying squadron links to the province, a link that goes back over 90 years, so this really is a momentous occasion and it is hoped that as many Squadron members - past and present - as possible make the effort to attend.
Details of activities during the visit have not been finalised but we now know we will NOT be departing from the usual format as previously thought. The Squadron has managed to reshedule the dinner to Saturday night so things are back to normal - at the moment!. For those who have planned to arrive early on Friday don't change anything as the Squadron does have some ideas to keep you entertained during the day. Other activities and entertainment during the weekend is being investigated and will be notified in due course. It is assumed that members will then return home on the Sunday but the Squadron are aware that there may be some staying until Monday to make use of cheap flights.
Costs for the weekend have not been finalised as yet but the Squadron is endeavouring to keep them to a minimum (approx £30 per person for the dinner) commensurate with the current rules for costs to non-service personnel and they will be publicised as soon as the figures are available. However, historically when we have been fortunate enough to have a reunion hosted by the Squadron, we have always had a one that represented fantastic value for money if compared with an event of similar standard in a civilian hotel.
Based on previous attendance figures the Squadron do not anticipate any problem with accommodating everyone in the Mess. However, should we get many more members than usual attending there might not be quite enough rooms so there might be a need for some guests to use local hotels. Available rooms in the Mess will be allocated on a first come, first served basis so the answer is in your own hands.
The Association has already got the names of a number of members whose intention it is to attend but we still need a formal notification. Please use the booking form inserted in the centre pages of the Spring 09 newsletter or the one available here. and return it by normal mail or email to the Association Chairman as soon as possible.
Updates to costs and the reunion programme will be notified as soon as they are available both on this site and by email to those attending.
The committee are looking forward to seeing as many of the existing members as possible - and hopefully a few new ones - there. Ex Squadron members who would like to join us should direct their questions to the Membership Registrar.
